How much candy do you give for Halloween?

Well, the answer to this burning question is;

I’d suggest 3 or 4 cady for each kid. So, you have to buy candy by multiplying this number by the number of kids in your neighborhood.

Though that is the usual amount, I also want to say that there is no rule for this number.

So, in this article, I’m going to share the top 5 types of candy trending in Halloween 2023, Halloween candy rules, the perfect time to stop sharing candy, and even how candy is linked with Halloween.

So, let’s start this “Spooky Candy Talk”.

By the way, some of you may be wondering if is it rude not to give out Candy on Halloween. For them, I already wrote an article.

What are the top 5 candies for trick-or-treaters on Halloween 2023?

Well, for me, choosing Halloween candy is like selecting the stars of the trick-or-treat show. I always want to treat candy that will leave kids grinning from ear to ear.

So, I prepared this list quite early thinking I could share this with you too.

  • Chocolate Bars

No more doubts, Chocolate bars are the reigning champs of Halloween candies.

Maybe classic milk chocolate bars or nougat-filled counterparts, these sweet delights are a must-have in my Halloween candy stash.

When it comes to mixing chocolate bars into my Halloween giveaway, I consider mixing mini versions of popular brands like Snickers, Kit Kat, and Milky Way.

  • Candy Corn

Well, some people adore Candy Corn, and others not so much. But I think its presence in my candy bowl adds that unmistakable Halloween flair.

By the way, this October 31st I’m planning to add candy corn wrapped in colorful layers or plastic bags into my Halloween candy jar, kids will love it.

  • Gummy Candies

Chewy and fruity Gummy candies, take the third spot on my list. Kids in my neighborhood love the flavors of gummy worms, bears, and other assorted shapes.

So, this time, I’ll mix small packs of gummy candies into treat bags or pair them with chocolate bars. You may try that too.

  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

If someone asks me what is the most popular Halloween candy chocolate bar?, my answer is “Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups”. The best part of it is, I can add them as single packs or can mix them with other candies.

  • Skittles

These bite-sized, fruit-flavored candies have been on my Halloween candy list every year. This year, I’ll try adding small packs of them to treat bags.

Tips for choosing the best candies for trick-or-treaters

  • Mix Variety into Your Candy Bowl:

Think about different tastes and textures. Include chocolate, gummy candies, hard candies, and perhaps something sour. This way, I can ensure that there’s something for everyone in my Halloween candy bowl.

  • Consider Allergen-Free Options:

Opt for candies that are free from common allergens like peanuts, tree nuts, and gluten. Recently, I found many brands now offer allergen-free alternatives, so it’s easier than ever to be inclusive.

  • Go for Miniatures:

They’re the perfect bite-sized treat that won’t leave trick-or-treaters feeling overwhelmed or guilty about indulging. Plus, they allow me to distribute more variety without breaking the bank.

  • Stick with Classic Favorites:

Classics are beloved by many. Including popular candies like M&M’s, Skittles, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups in my mix is a safe bet. These tried-and-true favorites appeal to many kids.

  • Keep an Eye on Packaging:

Fun and eye-catching packaging is a must in my Halloween candy jar. I suggest you look for Halloween-themed wrappers or consider creating your own treat bags with colorful designs.

In addition, as I said before, I always label the candy clearly so the parents can check them.

The Halloween Candy Rule

Well, this is actually not a “rule”, it’s just a set of unspoken guidelines that help maintain the sweetness of this tradition.

When it comes to the type and quality of candy, it’s all about striking a balance between excitement and practicality.

Most trick-or-treaters like popular, individually wrapped candies like mini chocolate bars, candy corn, or assorted candy bags. I think that’s because they are easy for little “goblins” to enjoy on the go. Article Sponsored Find something for everyone in our collection of colourful, bright and stylish socks. The next point that comes under this “Halloween Candy Rule” is that it’s considered good form to avoid those odd, obscure candies that might leave kids scratching their heads.

So, all-in-all, what I have to say is;

Stick to the classics, and you’ll rarely go wrong.

Now, let me get into a crucial aspect of the Halloween Candy Rule: being mindful of allergies and dietary restrictions.

Halloween should be fun for everyone, including children with allergies or special dietary needs. That’s why I always consider alternatives like nut-free candies or non-food treats like stickers and small toys every year.

If you want more alternative Halloween gift ideas, I recommend reading my article, Gift Ideas Trending in Halloween.

So, I recommend you try giving out some stickers and some toys to this year’s trick-or-treaters.

Well, another thing I do every year is label the types of candy clearly, so that their parents can check them.

And remember, it’s not just about allergies; some children may have dietary restrictions due to religious or cultural reasons.

I believe, by being sensitive to these concerns, I can create a more enjoyable Halloween experience for all the kids in my neighborhood.

What Time Should You Stop Giving Out Candy on Halloween

The timing of candy distribution should be perfect on this spooky evening, ensuring everyone gets a fair chance to join in the fun.

So, I think it’s best to stop giving out candy around 8:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Best Hours for Candy Distribution

The sweet spot here actually lies in understanding your neighborhood’s preferences.

Generally, in my neighborhood, most trick-or-treating occurs between 5:30 PM and 9:00 PM. Starting early, around dusk, ensures that even the youngest trick-or-treaters can participate before bedtime.

However, I think extending your candy-giving hours too late into the night might not be ideal, as it can disrupt the neighborhood’s peace and quiet.

The Importance of Respecting the Safety Concerns

Halloween night can become quite dark. So, kids may rely on streetlights and porch lights.

Therefore, shutting off your lights and finishing the candy distribution when it’s time helps ensure everyone’s safety. Usually, I finish candy distribution around 8:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Let me share a little story from my own childhood to emphasize the importance of timing.

One Halloween, as I was excitedly collecting candy with 2 of my friends, we lost track of time and continued trick-or-treating well past the usual hours.

By the way, when it became more darker, we found ourselves far from home. Suddenly, an unexpected autumn rainstorm hit, soaking our witches’ costumes.

We were panicking as we realized we had no idea how to get back home. Fortunately, a kind grandfather spotted us and offered shelter until our parents could pick us up.

So, remember, when the clock strikes the right hour, it’s time to dim the lights and close the candy jar for the night.
