15+ ideas to Make the Wedding Anniversary Day Special

An exciting wedding anniversary! As a married woman, I love to commemorate the day me and my husband made the vow. So, in this article, I’m going to share some ideas on how you can celebrate your next wedding anniversary.

First, I’ve got a lot of cool ideas for couples. Next, I’ve got some ideas to celebrate the wedding anniversary virtually for those who are in long-distance relationships. Then I’ll move towards anniversary celebration ideas if you have kids. Finally, I’ll share some budget-friendly anniversary celebration ideas.

How can I make the wedding anniversary rejoice?

It’s simple.

Make the day unique, memorable, and comfortable and do what you both like.

You can celebrate your wedding anniversary with your family, and friends or at home.

However, if you celebrate the wedding anniversary with your family, don’t forget to spend at least a few hours with your better half.

By the way, every year I look into magazines, social media, the internet, etc. to get inspiration to celebrate my wedding anniversary. So, I thought I should share them with you too. This list also got some points from my friends’ anniversary parties.

Wedding anniversary celebration ideas at home

Romantic Dinner Date at Home

Both me and my husband love cooking. So, to celebrate our second wedding anniversary, we cooked five different dishes and had a cozy candlelit dinner. And, to make it more romantic I suggest playing soft music and dim light.

Going out for dinner is good, but yet I think cooking what both of you love to eat together will make your anniversary day more special.

Indoor Movie Night

Once you had a romantic dinner at your home, you can set your mood with an amazing indoor movie night. Just transform your living room into a private cinema, sit together and watch anything you love. Don’t forget the popcorn!

Last time, we watched “Racket Boys”, a Korean series. Well, it’s not romantic, but we loved watching it together because some of the scenes brought back our memories when we were teens.

DIY Spa Night

Pamper yourselves with a spa night. Set up a bubble bath, prepare face masks, and take turns giving each other relaxing massages. Create a serene atmosphere with scented candles and calming music.

Home Decor Makeover

Sounds a bit “odd”, but trust me this is one of the coolest ideas to try on your anniversary. Why? Because, until your next home makeover, you’ll remember this.

It could be rearranging furniture, creating a photo wall, or even painting a room together. By the way, if I were you, I would try creating a photo wall with all the photos you captured when you were dating.Offering popular women’s necklaces such as pendants, chokers and chain necklace. Shop for jewelry in a variety of metals and gemstones to suit any occasion

And, on our next anniversary, I’m planning to make a wall art in our living room will my husband. We both love art. I hope it will be good enough to share on my Facebook and IG.

Breakfast in Bed

Again, an idea for those who love to cook. This breakfast should not be like a 5-star dish, but you can serve it like one. Maybe add a card with a lovely message, use a new set of dishes, or you can try anything to make it special.

Stargazing on the Patio

I think this is the best way to end your anniversary day. But I’m sorry, this is not for winter couples.

Both me and my husband love stargazing. So, we often sit in our patio at night and have a “quality time”. We talk about many things, like how we made it this far, what we do next month, where our next travel, what will we eat for breakfast, LOL, and anything. Trust me, it’s relaxing.

Game Night for Two

Well, this is something I tried in my late 20s. Now, we are not much interested in playing computer games. But, for young couples and those who love playing games, I would recommend this. Especially, if you can play a game that you were playing while dating will bring back your memories.

Virtual Celebration of Wedding Anniversary

Long-distance relationships are a very common thing we see in TikTok, IG, FB and any social media. By the way, I have never celebrated a wedding anniversary in long distance so far, but there are a few of my friends who celebrated one or two anniversaries long distance. So, I’ll share some of their ideas here.

Anniversary surprise video

This would be my favourite if I were in a long-distance relationship. This video can be with some photos of your special moments; like first date photos, first look on your wedding day, and so on. Or maybe you can record something special you have to say. I found the following video from YouTube and thought it would inspire you.

Lovely first message on the anniversary day

Along with the surprise video, you can send her/him a lovely message, the first message of the day. In my case, I love audio messages more than text messages (of course, nothing is sweeter than hearing his voice first thing in the morning)

Post a gift

Even though you are not with him/her at home, you can send a gift on the anniversary day with a bouquet. I think, adding something that represents love would be great.

When searching on social media for some ideas, I found a video about Virtual Gifts, especially for those who are in long-distance relationships. So I thought to share it here too.

In this video, she revealed more than 5 virtual gifts. So, if you can’t send a physical gift, I recommend watching this video for some ideas.

Virtual date

This idea is from one of my high school friends, Anny. Her husband was in Canada, on a business trip on their last wedding anniversary day. So, she planned to have a “virtual date” with her husband (first, it sounds crazy to me).

Anny took a video call as soon as she got up, and then they had a chat few minutes. They brushed, washed up together and had breakfast while on the call. But then her husband had to go for a meeting. In the evening, Both of them had a walk together (on call). At the end of the day, Anny went out for dinner and ordered the same food as her husband and had dinner while his husband was on video call.

By the way, Anny said, that anniversary is one of the most unforgettable anniversaries they celebrated so far.

In addition to Anny’s ideas, I think the ideas of Jackie Todd, a Youtuber, shared in the following video will be really helpful to you if you’re going to have a virtual date for your anniversary.

How to celebrate wedding anniversary with family

Do you celebrate your wedding anniversary with kids? If yes, you can try out these ideas for your next anniversary.

Backyard Camping Night

I recommend this for your next anniversary celebration with kids. You’ll thank me later. Set up a tent in your backyard, prepare some sleeping bags, flashlights, a bonfire and some S’mores – trust me, this would be one of the best celebrations you ever had.

Plant a Tree

I got this idea from a friend whose grandparents are from South Asia. Her grandparents used to plant a tree together on their wedding anniversary. This idea was new to me – but I felt it was one of the best to keep the memory for several years, even after our death.

As my friend told me, planting a tree together as a family symbolizes the growth and strength of relationships throughout the years. As for me, I like to choose a tree that’s easy to climb when it’s grown up – like oak, sycamore, or maple.

Show your wedding video, and photos to kids

This may be a good idea, depending on the age of your kids – if they are too young they will ask “Why we are not in your wedding photos?”. Trust me, showing them your photos and sharing the funny stories behind the photos is one of the best ways to celebrate your anniversary.

As your kids, they will know how much their parents enjoyed their life together and how much their parents adore them. My parents used to share their stories with me and my sister when we were in high school and I still remember how I felt.

Wedding anniversary ideas on a budget

Finally, I’m going to share some ideas to celebrate your wedding anniversary if you are on a budget.

Ideas like indoor movie night, breakfast in bed, planting a tree, and showing your wedding video and dating photos are perfect to celebrate your anniversary pocket-friendly. Plus, you can have a picnic in a park or maybe visit a museum or zoo if you have toddlers.

Finally, I hope these ideas will be helpful who want to celebrate your wedding anniversary as a couple, who are also in a long-distance relationship, or with your family and even if you are on a budget.
